This guide helps property owners prepare better questions and organize project information. It does not replace a survey, engineering, code review, permit determination, utility locate, soil evaluation, or project-specific construction documents.
Match the panel system to the building
Panel profile, seam type, gauge, coating, slope limitations, and fastening method should fit the roof geometry, use, budget, and appearance.
Inspect what supports the metal
New panels cannot correct a weak deck, uneven framing, trapped moisture, or failing underlayment. The substrate and ventilation path should be evaluated before installation.
Treat flashing as part of the roof
Valleys, walls, chimneys, vents, skylights, eaves, rakes, ridges, transitions, and penetrations need compatible details. Most leaks occur at transitions rather than in the middle of a panel.
Allow for movement and water
Metal expands and contracts. Fastening, panel length, clips, closures, sealants, and drainage details should follow the selected system rather than generic habits.
Plan safe long-term maintenance
Keep trees trimmed, gutters and valleys clear, incompatible metals separated, and penetrations inspected. Avoid walking on panels without knowing safe paths and proper fall protection.
Next step
Collect the property address, photos, dimensions, intended use, access details, utilities, finish preferences, and schedule goals. Then request a project-specific conversation with Nichols Construction.
